Why I Love Classic Rock

I feel that classic rock is very underrated in my generation. People know the basic great songs that came out of the classic rock era, but they don’t know the other great things that were behind those great hits. I think that classic rock represents freedom and not giving a shit about other people’s opinions of you. I think it represents innovation and creativity to a tee.

Freedom and Not Caring

When you think of classic rock some of the first things that come to mind are sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. This was not the most appreciated mantra of its time, but it is the perfect representation of how people did what they wanted. Now I’m not saying yeah sex and drugs, but I am saying to live your life the way you want! If there is one thing to be learned from rock n’ roll its to do what you want and forget everyone that tells you otherwise!

Innovation and Creativity

It is my own very personal opinion that Queen is the best band of the rock n’ roll era. I believe Queen changed music is ways that no one else could. Think about this for a minute; without Under Pressure by Queen there would be no Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and this is only one example of this type of happening. Queen combined theatre with rock to produce an amazing sound. A prime example of this is Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen was not the only group to do this type of innovating however. This was a common practice in the rock n’ roll era.

When you think about it too rock n’ roll was a whole new sound that had never been heard before. When you think about the godfathers of rock n’ roll you think Ray Charles, Buddy Holiday, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Ike Turner, Hank Williams, and more. These men worked together to create a whole new frontier of sound! That’s another cool part about rock n’ roll, everyone worked together to benefit the sound. One artist would sing another artist’s song and it wasn’t a big deal. They would give it a fun, new, and creative twist that the original artist hadn’t even thought of. There was more focus on the collective movement of rock n’ roll then there was on personal profit.

It Just Sounds Amazing

The things listed above are excess reasons as to why rock n’ roll is great, but at the end of the day it sounds awesome! The complexity of things you can hear from the classic instruments is amazing! Rock n’ roll makes you feel confident, cool, and it gets your heart beating a little faster. Plus if you listen to the lyrics of a lot of classic rock songs you start to understand the underlying meaning stuck into the lyrics.

“Rock and Roll has no beginning and no end for it is the very pulse of life itself.”   -Larry Williams
